Igor Vsevolodovich Girkin is a Russian army veteran and former officer in the Federal Security Service (FSB). He is known for his pivotal role in the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation as well as his work as an organizer of militant groups in the Donetsk People’s Republic during the conflict in the Donbas.
Girkin was born on December 17, 1970.
In 2014, Girkin led a squad of terrorists into Ukraine, where they engaged in the Siege of Sloviansk. This conflict lasted over four months and concluded on July 5 with a loss for the separatists.
