Federer was given birth in Basel, Switzerland, on August 8, 1981, by his Afrikaner mother, Lynette Federer (née Durand) from Kempton Park, Gauteng, in South Africa, and his Swiss-German father, Robert Federer, from Berneck in the Canton of St. Gallen.

As a result, Federer holds dual nationality of Switzerland and South Africa because his mother is a South African. He was raised in the border towns of Birsfelden, Riehen, and Münchenstein and is proficient in Swiss German, Standard German, English, and French. He also has a working knowledge of Italian and Swedish.

Roger just announced his retirement from the tennis world. On his Instagram feed, Roger Federer made the following announcement: “I am 41 years old. In the past 24 years, I have participated in almost 1500 matches. Tennis has been more kind to me than I ever could have imagined, and now I have to decide whether it’s time to call it quits on my competitive career,” he said.
