Bassnectar is the stage name of American DJ and record producer Lorin Gabriel Ashton. When he was ten years old, Ashton began making videos with his dad’s camera and developed a preference for visual arts over music.
Ashton’s involvement in the death metal group Pale Existence when he was 16 years old helped shape his heavy musical taste.
Lori Ashton became more and more active in the culture throughout the years, buying records, offering food and aid to concertgoers, promoting performances, and eventually learning to DJ after studying electronic music production.
In the 1990s, Ashton started making music with Opcode Systems Studio Vision Pro. He briefly performed on tour with the death metal group Exhumed in the mid-1990s.
